I didn’t know what to think going into this book as I adore Detective thrillers / Police procedurals but I wasn’t so sure about the AI element but I shouldn’t have bothered worrying at all as this was just amazing from beginning to end. However, the powers that be are influenced by the very vocal local MP and Kat has no choice but to take this on. In The Blink of An Eye explores the potential future of technology with an in-depth, unforgettable look at grief and humanity, and how surprisingly, one can aide the other. Kat finds the only one who believes in her turns out to be Lock, and he is instrumental in helping her solve the cold cases that have become active investigations.

There’s plenty of tension, enhanced by the anonymous perspective of a young man suffering at the hands of shadowy figures, and effective twists in the plot. She is tasked with running a new pilot programme which pairs AI's with humans to solve cold cases of missing people. The characters already are well established and you know exactly who they are and what they’re about which I liked.Daring and original, heartbreaking and heart-stopping, this study of what it means to be human is destined to not only be a big success, but a classic crime novel of our times. This story explores what it could be like for the police force to work with AI (artifical intelligence). When she's told that she is to head up a pilot scheme that introduces AI to the force, she's more than shocked. I met Jo at Capital Crime in London in September 2022 and was lucky enough to get a proof of her new book In The Blink of An Eye which has had some absolutely RAVE reviews and the word on the street is that this book is going to be HUGE. A detective mystery with an AI element added to it, I wasn't sure how I felt about LOCK at the beginning, but I really loved the human vs AI interaction in the cases.

But when the two missing persons cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal. The character of Lock is then introduced to the team, Lock is the the pivotal part of the AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity) project. A fresh and intriguing detective double act – I fell hard for all-too-human Kat and her AI colleague Lock .Her boss put her in charge of a pilot program, working with AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity) She is skeptical and is determined that the pilot will fail.

An ingenious police procedural with a clever twist, a delightful cast of characters paired with witty banter and relatable humour, intriguing cold case investigations - neatly sums this compelling and highly entertaining debut. The plot cracks along and there are several interesting twists and turns before an unexpected and dramatic ending. It staggers me that this is a debut, the author has such a talent for writing and I’m so sorry for your loss. I started and was ready to give up after AIDE - Artificial Intelligence Detective Entity named Lock was introduced.

Lock has been programmed to provide analysis and admin support which it can do in a fraction of the time it would take an officer but what it doesn’t have is that human mind.
