It took her winning an Indiana State Amateur of her own to learn that both her mother (1985) and aunt, Kelli Akers (1990) won that same tournament. There’s literally clubs laying around everywhere,” Libby said. “… People probably think we made them play, but we never did. We just asked them if they want to play. While growing as a collegiate athlete and improving her game on the course, Pancake is studying health science with a focus on the behavioral and social sciences. The majority of golf professionals go from little-known club to lesser-known clubs and the closest they get to a high-profile golf event is walking the grounds or watching it on TV.

It makes me feel good that they care and they want to know how I’m doing and they’re cheering me on.” Not so for Indiana native Tony Pancake. His distinctive name is matched by an equally distinctive career, having held the top job at several of the best-known and most highly regarded clubs in the nation. He has also been the host pro at important golf events some half-a-dozen times, more than a career's worth, all the more impressive considering the man is just past 50.

Pancake expressed his gratitude and humble thoughts on being named the 2019 Indiana PGA Golf Pro of the Year. “It’s a tremendous honor,” he stated. “To be recognized by your peers, obviously, is gratifying, but at the same time, I know there are so many people that are as deserving as I was. I just happened to be the one who got their name called this year.” Allie went on to play at Lipscomb, TJ competed collegiately at Cedarville (Ohio) and Trent managed the Purdue golf team in college. Summer 2021: Won her second Indiana Women’s Amateur with a 200 total for 54 holes…had rounds of 65-66-69 to win by 14 shots over Haylin Harris….had 21 birdies and an eagle, 11 more under-par holes than any other player…won by tournament record 14 shots…also set tournament record for 36 hole score (131), 54-hole score (200) …captured the tournament at Prairie View Golf Club…finished tied for fifth at the Michigan PGA Women’s Open where she had rounds of 71-69-71…also played in North-South Amateur and the women’s Western Amateur where she shot 75-73.

We showed up at state all four years of high school and made the podium every year we made it,” Pancake shared. “That was the goal—our high school coach [former head coach Jeff Anderson] would say, ‘Just get on the podium, that’s all we want,’ and we did it. I’m really proud of what the girls did, and it was also cool to have it be the first girls state title for Zionsville. We were all really proud of that.” Pancake’s high school athletic career wasn’t without its trials and tribulations, however. She suffered a broken ankle after winning state and had to sit out for three months while recovering.Her resume started to match that of her parents, who won some tournaments even Annabelle wasn’t aware of.
