The start was okay, I could feel the love for their parents and especially their father but when it comes to the setting and world, not so much. What they are not expecting is to discover a family of ghosts, a door to the dead and that the Book grants the power of immortality. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). This gave me all the vibes of Inkheart, and Northern Lights, while reminding me that these days, it's quite unusual for characters to die in middle grade books.This tense and exciting fantasy thriller is complex and magical with some great characters – both heroic and evil. Rachel was also the main POV but Robert does have several chapters where we learn his POV too and was more of a schemer but does have quite an important role in this book and series. With a gorgeous cover like that and with the tile of The Book of Stolen Dreams I had high expectations for this adventurous middle grade novel. However on the evening of April 8th, her eleventh birthday, it seems the celebration is even more special.

How can Rachel and Robert make sense of the book’s history and meaning, and then hide it from the most powerful man in the land? It felt like we were given a lot of clues, bits and pieces to put together along with our two main characters, and while it wasn't too complex, I had moments where I failed to piece the puzzles. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! The descriptive language the book is written in makes you feel like you are there, you want to cry with the characters, feel the fear they feel and want to celebrate with them!

I did like that the brother and sister split up, as we got to discover the world better from two different perspectives, in two different places. This debut novel from David Farr for readers aged 10+ is a fantastic adventure telling the story of Rachel and a Robert Klein who battle to protect and finding the missing page of a book that can provide its owner. When I started reading this wonderful, fast-paced, action-packed adventure, I was strapped in for magic, adventure, mystery-solving. When Athan Wilde’s mentor, Mr Chen, is brutally murdered, he rescues secret plans that should enable him to complete the old man’s spectacular flying machine.
