The campy 60's Batman (1966) series had lots of villains who were Canon Foreigners but one of the few who was entertaining enough to make return appearances was the Evil Genius Egghead, played by Vincent Price (who often commented publically how much he enjoyed playing the role). Chouriki Sentai Ohranger has Acha, a butler to the Baranoia imperial family who enlarges their monsters.

In Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Chief Engineer Tsubarov was this to the Romefeller Foundation. A brilliant technician, he invented the remote-controlled Mobile Dolls whose useage consumes much of the subsequent plot; he's also one of the few men at the OZ base who realises that using the captive Gundam pilots as test subjects might be a bad idea. Curiously, he had a personality that one would more typically associate with The Brute being a thuggish Jerkass and Smug Snake who loathed pacifism, had No Indoor Voice, dealt with problems by applying as much brute force as possible, and went out in the midst of a truly epic Villainous Breakdown, ranting about how he was invincible. To create a world-class organization and nurture true entrepreneurial thinking, you have to program to the top 10%, cull the 20% on the bottom continuously, and nurture the 70%. The culture you set determines the thinking through all levels of the organization."

Most psychology undergraduate students, if they are reasonably attentive, would recognize the mad-genius howler as a textbook case of the base rate fallacy ( Kahneman and Tversky, 1973). This common statistical sin, also known as base rate neglect, concerns the tendency to focus on specific information and ignore generic, baseline information, even when—and here is the rub—the latter is presented. Thus, people greatly underestimate the probability of a genius being totally sane and greatly overestimate the probability of an individual with mental illness being creative. The fact is that a very large proportion of creative people have no pathological symptoms ( Simonton, 2005, in press). Incidentally, the same reference point neglect occurs for insanity and violence ( Stuart, 2003). This link, too, is strongly negative, despite the perception we get from the media. I am not a fan of his personal life, but I like the way that he wasn’t afraid to go against the grain in business and do things differently that were often ridiculed. Brain, leader of Oracion Seis, is a full blown Mad Scientist who is also the Big Bad of his arc. Only he's not really the Big Bad, that's his Superpowered Evil Side, Zero. Despicable Me: Dr. Nefario to the anti-villainous Gru, designing the various gadgets and vehicles used by Gru (and also pulls double-duty as The Dragon). A cameo in Minions reveals he created Gru's weapon of choice, the Freeze Ray. The old definition of insanity, "doing the same thing and expecting to get a different result" no longer applies. The rules have changed. Today's marketplace changes by the second. Doing the same thing and expecting the same result today is insane. In Fire Emblem, it's not uncommon to have an Evil Sorcerer or High Priest of the Religion of Evil act as the Evil Genius. Often this character is also the Big Bad or The Dragon and/or the Evil Chancellor. The title says it all: Randy Gage is both—mad and a genius!—and he puts it all in a book as a handbook for success!! CRAZY GOOD!”

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger had Shitari of the Bones, the Gedoshu sage who views humans as fodder for his research projects. In For a Few Dollars More, El Indio is a similar case. Groggy is another example as he's given technology-based assignments like taking out the telegraph lines to El Paso and, despite his name, figures out that Indio plans to screw over the entire gang to keep the money for himself. The skinny-bodied Pestilence in particular among the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Under service to Lucifer, Pestilence heads a demon-run secret project to develop a strain of the Croatoan virus which infects hosts in seconds, so it can be distributed simultaneously across the country hidden inside a new vaccine rollout.Godzilla: King of the Monsters: Dr. Emma Russell appears to be a Reluctant Mad Scientist, forced to co-operate with the eco-terrorists against her will in using her invention to set Ghidorah and other Kaiju loose on the world. In actuality, she's acting entirely of her own free will because she believes she's saving humanity in the long haul. Barty Crouch Jr. is a better example. He replaces a teacher, kills his father, and lures Harry away from potential protectors, and no one realizes until nearly the last moment what he's up to. In The Elenium, by David Eddings, Krager is this to Annias and Martel. Annias himself is this to Azash. Ryoma Sengoku from Kamen Rider Gaim is an amoral scientist and the creator of the Sengoku Driver. Ryoma gladly sacrifices human lives For Science! and doesn't even care one bit that humanity could potentially go extinct. Another unique trait of his is that he completely loses it whenever one of his inventions is placed in a bad light.
