Let’s not pretend it can supply quality music – it cannot – but the tiny speaker is fine for audiobooks. You can manually control both warm and cool backlights, and this is a key differentiator for Onyx's tablet line.

Thankfully, for its second-generation Note Air tablet, Onyx has improved both the pen magnet and case adhesion by adding magnets to the back – a huge improvement on both counts. It's a simpler tablet that can't compete when it comes to app support but is still rich with features, and ultimately, feels a bit more refined from a software point of view than Onyx's E Ink alternatives. Therefore, it is best to communicate clearly, in simple sentences and avoid the use of idioms and metaphors that could be taken literally.The Air 2 isn't a huge upgrade over its predecessor, but because the original model won't likely stay on sale for much longer, the Note Air 2 is our clear Editors' Choice winner for 10-inch ebook readers and E Ink tablets. This is in part owing to its matte textured screen, and in part owing to E Ink scribbles looking more like they were created with a real pen and paper. Others say that the UI is very ergonomic but not the most user friendly until you are used to it, it takes a little getting used to, and there's quite a lot of setting up to do. Onyx also gives you plenty of screen refresh modes to choose from, so you can customise each app to display just the way you want it to.

The tablet can even simultaneously read Audible books out loud to you and show you their text, something regular Kindles can't do (especially because they don't have speakers). Not relying on cumbersome workarounds to get my notes into the applications that I use most is a powerful differentiator, and makes this tablet a no-brainer to use on a daily.

In addition, whilst the Tab series is very good at note-taking, the writing experience feels too smooth and plasticky, which can be quite unpleasant for some users. It balances decently well in one hand, but is a bit too heavy to hold like that for extended periods. However, if you’ve moving from annotating on, say, an iPad using the Apple Pencil, know that you won't have to recharge the Wacom stylus supplied with the Note Air 2. Dial up the backlight, and things get a bit more traditionally screen-like, albeit still monochrome. However, some users did comment on hearing an annoying noise when writing with the stylus, similar to the sound of a dry felt tip on paper.

Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places.I really liked the standard Boox pen it comes with which provides a very realistic writing experience. Boox is committed to providing free firmware updates for all models for more than 3 years since the product launch date. Huawei's MatePad Paper is another alternative to the Note Air 2 Plus, though isn't as compelling owing to a sorely lacking software experience.
