There are 9 different rooms to visit, starting in Your Room, each one containing a different puzzle or challenge that will lead to the next room… and the next riddle-filled envelope. Although the game can be played without destroying any of the components, it didn’t provide reset instructions. You can do as many or as few trails as you like and can have a drink/eat your way through the food menu/play games at your leisure. We were ready for a night to remember – little did we suspect it would be for all the wrong reasons!

Your experience of this game is very similar to ours, but we found the game far too easy, until we got to the coded fax. The clues were tenuous and the solutions unconvincing, and the climax as we opened the final envelope and read out the very long-winded, predictable prose was embarrassingly and frustratingly disappointing. This matchbox game is filled with difficult puzzles, brain-teasers, challenges and exercises for you to work your way out of a seemingly cursed hotel. If your board game life has gone a bit stale, use this difficult puzzle game to take it to the next level. If you aren’t comfortable with the format, the limited hinting could make this game quite challenging.When their glamorous, rich and influential guests arrive for the grand re-opening, they’re ready for a night to remember – little do they suspect it will be for all the wrong reasons! Some were very tricky and even with the hidden clue within the envelope, still didn't quite appreciate how the answer was achieved. Overall, still an exceptional room and one of the best we have done but I still rate Temple Quest and Diamond Dogs higher! Or try a 90-minute experience escaping from criminals on a 1920s sleeper train, or dark goings-on at the Grand Hotel.

I was difficult for 2 to share solving the puzzles in the different rooms and I cannot see how 8 people could be involved. When their glamorous, rich and influential guests arrive for the grand re-opening, they’re ready for a night to remember – but as it turns out, it’s memorable for all the wrong reasons! If we solved a puzzle, it would resolve to a clue to the next location within the hotel for us to visit. but this should by no means put escape room fans off going because it has so many elements of the theatre and story element that we love in escape rooms. The decor really is superb and the actors go out of their way to make the whole experience feel genuine.This approach allowed Professor Puzzle to strip out artificial answer checking mechanisms and keep things in-world. We were able to pack it up correctly by referencing the solutions guide, but without instructions, we had to repack one puzzle in the solved state. It is an immersive town that you can explore at your own pace with live actors who you interact with through trails (accessed on your phone) to bring the experience to life. Professor Puzzle’s Escape from the Grand Hotel was a standard play-at-home escape game with a moderate to high level of difficulty. Professor Puzzle provided duplicate copies of one of the more tedious puzzles so that more players could participate.

This is a very well presented game with its smart box and mysterious envelopes, so it looked extremely promising for an evening's family entertainment.When finding the answer to the puzzle, this will then give you a hint to the next room you need to move to. Another very different at home proposition, Escape from the Grand Hotel, is a table top, envelope-based escape experience. There's an opening and a closing ceremony to tie the four hour experience together but this really is something where the more you put in, the more you'll get back. So much reading and easy puzzles at the start, it would have been difficult to keep 8 players entertained.
