The simplest explanation of the plot would be to call it a retelling of the Prince and the Pauper plot. Only instead of physically exchanging places with each other the characters manage to perform a bit of Freaky Friday magic on themselves and teleport their souls into each other's bodies. A simple enough plot that is complicated by the intelligence of one of the boys participating (unwittingly) in the exchange. What follows the Switch is a series of plots that thrust both boys into hitherto unknown territory, which they manage to navigate relatively unscathed, at east mentally. Horowitz began writing for television in the 1980s, contributing to the children’s anthology series Dramarama, and also writing five episodes of the third season for the popular fantasy series Robin of Sherwood. I'm going to leave it there as this is the first book review I've written and I'm not sure if I should spoil anything else.

During the 1980’s Anthony Horowitz started creating work for film as well as television, as he begun to expand upon his output. Writing for children’s shows such as ‘Dramarama’ and ‘Robin of Sherwood’ he started to create a name for himself within the field. It was then later on that he wrote the screenplay for the 2006 film ‘Stormbreaker’, whilst he’s also set to write the new Tintin film coming out too. Winning a number of awards throughout the years, Horowitz is not without his fair share of critical acclaim either. Expanding upon the mediums and formats he writes within, such as comic-books as well, this looks set to continue in the years to come. Creating more work all the time, his appeal is growing both critically as well as commercially, as he gains more success. In 2016, Horowitz's adult novel Magpie Murders was published. Having previously spoken about the book in 2005, it was initially described as being about "a whodunit writer who is murdered while he's writing his latest whodunit". [42] Horowitz finally expected to finish it in late 2015, [43] and it was finally published in October 2016. [44] A follow-up novel, Moonflower Murders, was released in 2020. This book went on to win the 1989 Lancashire Children's Book of the Year Award.
