There were a couple of uncomfortable moments for me (but then I got over myself...) when the story wove around characters who were real people and members of the British Royal Family, with one behaving very indiscreetly!

Great stories have in them an essence of being timeless. They capture the important moments of life vividly and immortalize them. Such are the stories that take the reader through time-travel into the past or the future. The reader is able to re-live the story in his mind simply because a book has captured the life out of the story. Books like these could only be written by a sterling author. Jeffrey Archer is one such author manifesting literary greatness in himself. Being such a celebrated author, he has come to woo readers with his flair for writing novels and short stories. Biography of Jeffrey Archer Despite the slow start - Archer setting the scene! - I soon became invested in the storyline. Anyone not familiar with this author's writing may see the first half of Next in Line as not having much happening because all the action takes place quite late in the book. But believe me, it's worth the wait. It’s 1988 and Britain is in the middle of their love affair with Diana, the People’s Princess. While many in the Royal Family prefer to keep a low profile, Diana attracts the flashbulb like none before her. This nothing new, but something is on the horizon, lowing the tabloids to feast on all the crumbs tossed their way. Most students could not understand how he was able to have houses and cars to his name yet he only worked part-time jobs as a fundraiser for the charity organization, Oxfam. This season saw him meet his future wife, Mary Weeden, who happened to be a chemistry student in the Oxford college of St Anne’s. They later on had two sons both of whom became politicians. After graduating from College, he continued his fundraising work this time for a medical charity known as The National Birthday Trust. My thanks to HarperCollins and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Next in Line.The Clifton Chronicles is divided into seven novels that are Only Time Will Tell (2011), The Sins of the Father (2012), Best Kept Secret (2013), Be Careful What You Wish For (2014), Mightier Than the Sword (2015), Cometh the Hour (2016) and This Was a Man (2016). The two storylines are clever with many twists and turns, making for a fascinating and gripping read. Archer is adept at pulling many threads together to produce a satisfying conclusion, and it goes without saying that the research involved is exceptional. A terrific read!
