At this price, it’s hard to find a better value than Mionetto. The nose is filled with minerals and calm, crisp apple. The palate is refreshing with a slight saline quality that balances the mild yet expressive fruit. A good one to have around. Refreshingly crisp with a delicate perlage, pale straw yellow colour. Delicate and complex bouquet with fruity notes reminiscent of peach and green apple with secondary notes of acacia and lilac. Fresh and light on the palate, with balanced acidity and body; harmonious with a lingering aftertaste. In a great looking bottle with an encrusted label.

The wine itself is delightfully crisp and elegant, with delicate perlage and a pale straw yellow colour. To taste it has flavours of vibrant apple with peach notes and a delicate, floral and fruity finish. Focused with chalky hints of pears and good minerality running through, the palate on this sparkler shows very balanced fruit and a refreshing mouthfeel and grippy bubbles. This is an excellent example of DOC Prosecco. The bubbles here are soft and comfy, and the nose offers some candied fruit aromas. The palate is also sweet but instead of fresh pear aromas, it’s pear juice with a dollop of sugar. It would mix into a great Mimosa but would also work as a casual sipper.The General Wine Company sources wines from all over the world, but with a particular focus on small, independent producers. The company's buyers travel extensively to meet with winemakers and taste their wines, ensuring that they only offer the best of the best. For an American brand dipping its toes in an Italian DOC, this bottle is just great. It is a standard-bearer for this style of wine. The fruit is so earthy, and the nose wafts with honey and orchard fruit. The palate is just pure balance, with grippy fruit and playful bubbles. It’s exclusively DTC but so worth the online time. This is your neighborhood Prosecco rosé. It’s everywhere and easy to find. Herby strawberries and some earthiness cut through the depth of fruit. The soft bubbles maximize the fruit core making it a great wine for Rosé Mimosas. BRILLA! is a premium Prosecco in an embossed bottle that sparkles even more than the wine. The label glitters like diamond – which is hard to reproduce in a photograph! – and combined with the distinctive, heavyweight bottle makes for a wine that is just perfect for Christmas.

Then there was further variation with source area, with, in particular, the Proseccos from all the DOCGs proving especially fine. Among these, it was the samples from the smaller area of Asolo that stood out for their powerful aromatics and ripe yellow fruit flavours, compensating for the fact that these wines tend to be a bit drier than their equivalents from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Nice and balanced with soft floral aromas, this wine offers a sweetness that is calm; not overwhelming. The bubbles are persistent and allow the aromas to peek through as you sip. Finally, we had a raft of rosés, as we assessed the quality of producers now making pink Prosecco, since the authorisation to do so in the DOC came in late 2020. These proved to be a delicious addition to the category, with the cherry fruit from the Pinot Noir red wine used to give these Proseccos their colour – usually a pale salmon pink – adding a complementary characteristic to the base wines made with the Glera grape. A balanced Prosecco with deep fruit and a nice, earthy vibe, this is a wonderful example of how the Glera grape expresses itself. The depth is consistently refreshed, but soft yet persistent bubbles wind up to the top of the glass.This is a great, casual Prosecco. This is a solid Prosecco with a sharp-ish nose that calms on the palate. At first, the very ripe notes of pear are front and center, but as the bubbles settle, so does the fruit. An American wine brand making Italian DOC wine is a vibe for sure, but whoever Montinore collaborated with is on point. This is a great Prosecco rosato with a deep, earthy nose and palate. The fruit is juicy with a little grip and the Pinot Noir and Glera work so well together, bringing punchiness calmed by great minerality. If one considers that Prosecco has increased in production volumes by tenfold in the past 15 years, from around 60 million bottles to more than 600m today, its remarkable how the fizz has reached such a scale while retaining its appealing combination of clean, aromatic peach and pear flavours, with a touch of sweetness, offset by a zesty edge.As for the issue of diversity, there seems to be a broadening of Prosecco styles, with successful results among the differing profiles. In terms of sugar levels, Prosecco does seem to best suit an ‘extra dry’ sweetness (12g-17g/l), with around 13g-15g/l being optimal to fill out the mid-palate without tasting saccharine. However, there appears to be a rising number of Brut and even Extra Brut Proseccos coming on to the market, offering a slightly sharper drinking experience, but, due to the use of fine, ripe fruit, a taste that isn’t too hard. While often thought of as sweeter than Champagne, most Prosecco is dry or off-dry. What does brut mean in Prosecco? This is one of the most vibrant, crisp, and refreshing Proseccos out there. The fruit is ripe and focused with some pears and flowers for your nose. The palate shows all of these characteristics carrying over for a pure Glera experience.Solid. Just straight-up solid. It’s not complex and has a casual, easy-drinking vibe. The fruit is balanced if not very expressive, and that’s OK. Everything is in its right place, making this ideal for a brunch companion or welcome drink.
