To explain, it's set in a contemporary world but we've got clairvoyant characters who see visions of the future and an herbalist FMC whose so good at her craft some could argue she's a green witch! I thought it was a bit slow at times as it repeated the inner thoughts of the men but it picked up momentum towards the end. Her character had nice moments, but I do think she was portrayed more strongly in the summary of the book than her character really was. I haven’t read many Bea books yet, but I can already tell she always have something unexpected and new in her stories. Childhood trauma, selective mutism, and a lonely, loveless existence are made worse by her father's idea of tough love.

Bea Paige has a brilliant way of blending chapters from the past with the present seamlessly that it doesn't feel noticeable. Cyn a skilled witch/scientist/alchemist of the modern times, and she can create almost anything from plants. also these characters are so incompatible i don’t understand what the author was trying to do to make them all a couple like she needs to take notes from the bonds series bc while it was slow it had a great plot that made up for it and the slowburn really added to the story. and the plot was so dumb they’re using her debt to them to make this drug from them to sell and she can be free after and they don’t know whether to trust her which i’m like why u letting her make u this drug she can screw u over.Each guy has demons in his past and struggles in different ways in regards to Cyn and the blood pact. Since there was a lot to be learnt about Cyn and the Deana-Dhe’s aka Arden, Carrick and Lorcan, considering the past history they shared.

I'm hanging on by a thread about 2 hours from the end of the book and its a lot words and no action. Cyn has been mute since the death of her mother and to finally know what she's thinking in her head and what she's been through has been eye opening. As Cyn struggles to overcome her grief and sense of lost she enters into a deal with the three men who are her bullies and captors. The story follows Cynthia ‘Cyn’ O’Farrell and The Deana-Dhe aka Arden Dálaigh, Carrick O’Shea and Lorcan Sheehan all of whom made appearance in Bea’s other series Their Obsessionduet. it’s not the worst but it’s just so receptive and boring at times as they have this format of flashback in main girls perspective then present in the different pov of her and the main guys and i found that format to be irritating like yeah the flashback chapter is connected to what’s going on in the present one but i just don’t like the back and forth it’s giving me whiplash.Each of the guys are so different but yet the same as in none of them will admit how they feel about Cyn especially Carrick who treats her like she’s his biggest enemy, but you can see through the cracks in his armour and you know how he really feels for her . I have become quite a fan of her after reading The Dancer and The Masks duet and now, finally learning about Cyn’s past who was an enthralling character in the that duet has been an exquisite experience.

So once again, she has the upper hand, even though it initially seems like the guys hold all the power. The showcasing of very distinct personalities between each of the Deana-Dhe had been executed well by Bea. She really takes the time to delve into her characters, in to this shared world so many are interconnected with.

Guilty pleasure, not gonna lie, and there were hints in book 1, which makes sense with how close the guys are, and I hope we get more in book 2! There was always a change between the present and the past and that was done by having a chapter in the present and then immediately having one in the past. But, this book found the perfect balance between peeling away their mystique, but still making them interesting.
