There were 99 commendations of both kinds in 44 years including Foreman and two others in 1980, when no one was highly commended. The thrilling adventures and colourful life of this legendary figure filled a whole saga, but don’t worry if your Old Norse is a bit rusty: we’ll give you the jist of it right here. A "joke" featuring a Japanese slave driver whipping white slaves is supposedly an attempt to mock the idea of stereotypes. To summarise a long story: Erik’s slaves (yes, slaves were a thing at the time) unwittingly triggered a landslide that ruined a neighbour’s farm. Variety magazine gave the film a positive review: "The idea of telling the story of a Viking warrior who thought there must be more to life than rape and pillage is an amusing one", and concluded that it was "an enjoyable film".

I really like this book because Eric doesn't fall for tricks like he said to Thorkhild “don't go in the sea, the old man of the sea is filled with tricks and might freeze you to death! The Saga of the Greenlanders has a different version of the events, claiming that Christianity was introduced to Greenland after Erik the Red's death, with Leif playing no role in this event. Harald the missionary sees neither hall, nor ghosts or gods, and passes intangibly through its walls due to his Christianity. I can't stress enough how brilliant this book would be to read young boys and girls as an epic bedtime story. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use.

This was really useful to use during our Topic of the Vikings, we used it to create our own viking saga - inspired by these stories and following a similar structure.
