Description

Apply your choice of wax in a circular motion with a soft cloth, continuing to polish until it works into the surface and remaining surface wax becomes stiff. Relatively large particles - in combination with the paste - are highly effective when smoothing out any rough finishes on your model's surface, and it can be washed away using water when the job is finished. I haven't tried the Meng/DSPIAE glass files on a transparency, but using them on opaque plastic makes it go very shiny.

As some of them had issues with the canopies I needed to polish them so, as I'm a lazy sod at heart I've converted an old lekkie toothbrush (which doesn't hold a charge for very long) to help. Since it's formulated to polish fine silver, brass and copper, is works extremely well on plastic, both the colored styrene and the clear.As I haven't got any polishing compound I remembered that someone mentioned that white toothpaste can be used. Be extra cautious with corners, edges, and any fine, protruding details; rubbing compound can easily remove the color coats in these areas.

It may take four or five applications on a single area over the course of 15-30 minutes before you get the glossiness you desire. However, if you can find the 'Fine' compound it might well be worth giving that a try before getting the 'Finish' - from my experience you can get a pretty good shine with just Fine so for me Finish would just be a nice to have (assuming I could find it) rather than a necessity. The added paint can be polished in with the existing paint during subsequent stages but be careful to avoid burning through the edge again!

I was with my model club yesterday at my lhs and noticed that they now carry tamiya polishing compound, both the blue box and the red. I've also had very good luck using these with the Testors laquer factory finishes as well as the Tamiya. But after you have smoothed surface, the following fine and finish rubbing compound applications go quickly.

Even though you’ve sprayed your final clear coat, and it looked really good while it was wet, after it dried, you noticed a fine orange-peel texture developed.If you pay attention to perfecting the basics of your paint jobs, so that your final coats of color and/or clear are smooth, you can often skip the wetsanding stage, or perhaps just use 3200/4000 grit Micromesh. It did, however, leave a smooth-enough finish that I can foil, put a finish coat on top and polish out. And interestingly enough, the Testors paint reacts in such a way that there's a subtle but appreciable difference with the finish compound.

I can't risk damage from the soft foam of my model carrying case, or packing materials in case it needs to be shipped. You will probably need multiple applications of the coarsest grade of compound on each surface to start.It's good for bringing up gloss paints to an ultra high gloss finish, so always handy to have in the tool box. I can highly recommend Meguiars Ultimate Compound applied and rubbed with a good quality microfibre cloth it gives an excellent finish.
